Combining 2013

This weekend, the farmers who farm my parents fields started combining corn. My dad had called Scott Singleton a week ago and told him that Conner was hoping he could help combine again this year. So, Thursday night, Scott called dad and said he'd probably be there Friday or Saturday. So, they came and picked up Conner and he went to my parents to wait. Late Friday evening, they made it to my parents fields and Granddad and Conner got to help some. Then, Saturday morning was the big day when they finished the whole field. Conner was up early and ready to combine Saturday. So, he and granddad were combining around 7. I got there at 8 and I got to ride along with Scott and Conner for an hour. This time, Conner got to drive the combine. When he got full, he got on the CB and said "Hey boys, I'm ready to dump!" and the guys pulling the wagon came on the CB and said "OK Conner, we'll be right there."
Conner said "10-4." then here comes the guys with the wagon and they pull right up to the combine and Conner pushes the yellow button and the corn fills the wagon.
Later, dad, Conner, and I were out in the corn field taking pictures of the big John Deere and the old Oliver side by side and the guy driving the tractor and wagon pulled up and asked Conner if he wanted to ride with him for awhile and Conner said "YES!"
Oh my, even more excitement! So, granddad helped him up the stairs and this time he just turned and waived. He didn't need us to ride with him, he had this mastered. Off they went and later Granddad drove out and picked him up so we could go to the family reunion!
Scott's wife came to watch Conner work then disappeared to buy Conner a combine in the model he drove last year! What a great big day this kid had! He was grinning from ear to ear! He was asked by Scott if he would come back next spring and help him plant soybeans!
Thanks to Scott, Vicki, and the crew for making a little boys dreams come true and thanks to my parents for making it all happen!
He loved it!!!

Ready for MeMaw to pick him up to go combine!

Driving and concentrating on lining up the corn head! He was smiling the whole time and he would look away to make sure I saw him and then we'd have to back up the combine and realign a couple times. Gotta keep your eyes on the corn!

Conner and Scott Singleton, his new buddy!

Now he gets to go empty the combine into his wagon!

Dad's Oliver. When Scott Singleton's dad started the farming business they did it all with Oliver tractors.
You can see the difference in what they use today! I think they cover a lot more ground now days.

Our Day Off!

This week on our day off,  we met Daddy for lunch at Q'doba to spend some time with him. Then Conner and I went to the Inflatable fun Factory. Since kids are back in school, we had the whole place to ourselves.  Conner got to try out all the bounce houses he wouldn't dare try before because they were always full of other kids. He is a bit shy around other kids. So, he had the run of the house.
Then, he asked to go to one of his favorite places to explore, the broken down railroad tracks and bridge by Mulzers. So, we went there for a bit and walked around. What a great day!

A Day out With Thomas

This weekend, we headed to Nashville, TN for "A Day out with Thomas." It is at the Tennessee Railway Museum. They had the town of Sodor set up with games, bounce houses, movies, petting zoo, entertainment, and more. Sir Topham Hat was also there. We went on a train ride pulled by Thomas himself. Conner asked if we can do it again next year so I think it was a hit.

Drive-IN

We finally made it to the Drive- In Labor Day weekend. We went with Ben, Jamie, Hannah, Kyle, Byron, Andrea, and Harper. It was Conner and Harper's first time at the Drive-In. We saw Disney Planes and Monster's University. They were both cute movies. There was a lot of "Playing" during the first movie because it was so much fun to watch a movie outdoors. We watched the whole second movie. It was a perfect night, with perfect weather, and perfect company.

Conner wanted to touch the screen and see the door that the people who live in the screen use to go inside.
