This weekend, we went camping at Lincoln. Saturday, Conner and I went to Holiday World to meet Steph, Abby, and Sophie. We had been there about a half an hour when we met up with Steph and the girls. We were standing in line for the train. I had just put sunscreen on Conner. I wiped the excess off my hands onto his back, turned to say something to Steph, and the next thing we hear in skull hitting concrete and the SCREAMS! He had maybe 30 seconds to climb onto the railing without us seeing him. Neither one of us know how it happened but he fell backwards and hit the back of his head on the concrete. Steph scooped him up and handed him to me and all of us walked out of the line so he could cry it out when some lady told me he was bleeding. Sure enough, blood everywhere coming from the back of his head. His blond hair was covered in blood and my face and hair likewise from holding him. They called the EMT's to come. Conner settled down and did so well while the EMT examined him. When we got the bleeding under control, we could see a 1/4 inch gash in his scalp. He tried to steri strip him (butterfly) him back together to stop the bleeding. But his hair was too thick and matted wet with blood, so I suggested we shave his hair a little to get a better look and give the steri strips something to grip to. The EMT took Conner and I to the First Aid office where the shaved a spot and cleaned him up and tried steri strips again. He was so good through it all. The EMT kept asking me if he was always this CALM or was he acting unusual? I assured him that this was normal, and Steph reassured them too, and they continued to check his pupils. We were later released with the instructions to get a couple of stitches at a local hospital or urgent care. We talked to a Dr. Friend of ours on the phone who reassured us that if the bleeding was under control and it was less than a half inch, he should be fine. And he is!!!! I am sure this will be the first of many scares.
The EMT said he was a VERY Well behaved 3 year old. I assured him that Conner is always an angel for Doctors visits and then the minute he walks out of their site, he turns into the normal mischievous three year old.
Later that night, Steph, Tim, the girls, and my mom and dad came over to camp for dinner and dessert. Then, The Wollenmanns stayed to camp out with us. Sunday, we took the kids to Lincoln Boyhood Memorial.
